Dibidi! Dibidi! Marathon!

I was about to go to Manila for the OP cheering practice but unfortunately, I got a bad stomach. Goddamn LBM! So I texted Ms. Not, the blue team coordinator, and Jo, the blue team cheerleader, that I wouldn't be there to attend the activity.

I stayed at home and did some cleaning up. While sorting my clothes, I watched dvd movies instead of watching some regular tv shows in ABS-CBN or going to a friend's house for chikka moments. This, I thought, would be the best way to spend a holiday. Here are the films I feasted on this afternoon.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is such a great movie! It is a low-cost film but the story is great. It shows the condition of life in India where slums also exist, just like in the Philippines. It also denotes the truth about how youngsters fight against debilitating poverty, ignorance and social cruelty. The scenes flow smoothly and the actors are superb! The pairing up of Jamal and Latika is such a sweet thing and brother Salim who, in the end, proves his love for his brother.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON is some kind of a film that would bore you if [and only if] you do not really understand what is happening. Well, I find it interesting to discover why it is called a "curious case." What makes the movie lovable is the love itself felt by the characters. The story shows a love that is unending and unconditional. No buts and no ifs - only "just because"... and in the end, love wins. An oh, how I love to stare at Brad Pitt, I crush him so much!

GRAN TORINO is the most touching of all the movies I watched today. Maybe because it involves a "father"in the story. I mean, the lead is a father - an old man who losses a wife and lives all by himself. He finds a friend in a teenage Korean boy who has made enemies with some bad Korean lads. The story ends up with Wally being killed by these bad guys, which resulted to their being caught and jailed by the police. This makes sense because justice prevails in the end. And the gran torino ends up in the custody of Tao, Wally's Korean friend.

THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX - what great way to end a dibidi marathon is to watch a cool cartoon movie starring a cutesy little mouse named Despereaux. This is to lighten up the load of the three previous heavy movies I watched before. Despereaux is a little hero with a big heart. He is brave, optimistic and willing to sacrifice his life to save the needy and his nation. And the moral of the story is "Dream big no matter how small you are."
